OVERVIEW:

Thank you for your interest in Wine Country Radio’s Internship Program. We offer a limited number of internship and mentorship opportunities and priority will be given to college students. Please note that our internships/mentorship’s are unpaid and prospective candidates must be registered as “interns” with their accredited universities, colleges, and/or mentorship programs in order to successfully obtain an internship/mentorship with Wine Country Radio.

Wine Country Radio is currently offering a non-paid internship opportunity to students seeking insight and hands-on training within the workings of a radio station. In addition to day-to-day working knowledge and experience obtained, participating students will gain valuable hands-on work experience that will be applied and used during their post-collegiate employment positions.

REQUIREMENTS:

Prospective candidates must be enrolled in an accredited school and be majoring within a certificate or degree-seeking program, associated with an accredited mentorship program or be associated with an approved mentorship program. Interns must be enrolled in the internship/mentorship program in conjunction with their internship at Wine Country Radio. Interns must be in good academic standing and be able to make a 10-40 hour per week commitment, complying with the institutions requirements (please note some internships are subject to age requirements). Having a fairly flexible schedule is recommended. If you meet these requirements, please complete the attached application and include the following information:

  • Cover letter outlining your internship goals, desired accomplishments, strengths, and your long term career goals
  • Current Resume
  • If you are hired as an intern for Wine Country Radio, a letter from your school internship supervisor or course advisor verifying your internship registration will be required.

 INTERNS WILL GAIN KNOWLEDGE IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:

PROGRAMMING DEPARTMENT

Interns will work with on air talent assisting with show preparation, offering creative show topics and ideas, screen incoming calls prior to the broadcast, etc. Strong telephone skills are imperative.

Interns will assist stations programming department with various tasks including corresponding via phone, fax, and email with listeners, updating music libraries, and other projects as assigned relative to current programming events such as contests, concerts, or media campaigns.

Interns will learn how the on air system works in order to assist with live broadcasts and syndicated shows.

PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT

Interns will learn Adobe Audition and will use it to help produce and voice in house commercials as well as insert pre-produced commercials.

PROMOTIONS DEPARTMENT 

Interns must be able to handle a flexible schedule including weekends and nights. Attendance at live broadcasts, promotional events, and community events will be required. Intern will work directly with Promotions Directors and staff to prepare and execute promotional activities and contests.

Interns will assist in writing PSA’s and preparing them for on air live reads.

Interns will learn how to make updates to the websites and will assist in social networking for the stations through newsletters, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
